WASTE STATE
2 IDEAS FROM ME
Waste is the state of spending non-ikigai effort and/or ineffective ikigai effort. In the non-ikigai effort state, we waste our time on things that have nothing to do with the things that matter most, our ikigai. In the ineffective ikigai waste state, we are actually engaged in activities that support our ikigai, but our time is not as effective as it could be due to Waste.
In the waste state, people are lost in thought and drift through life compulsively reacting to events rather than proactively creating the life they want. The time wasted in this state is lost forever.
2 QUOTES FROM SAGES
The world class standard method for eliminating waste from any process was first introduced by Toyota Manufacturing and evolved into LEAN-Six Sigma Manufacturing and Kaizen Processes which are used internationally today. This LEAN-Six Sigma & Kaizen Process uses the following DOWNTIME mnemonic: (The Eight Deadly Lean Wastes: DOWNTIME —Jason McGee-Abe, 2015-08-12)
D = Defects (defective tools and equipment: broken phones, computers, dishwashers, clothes washers, vehicles, bikes, etc.).
O = Overproduction (over-focus on one ikigai habit at the expense of others).
W = Waiting (waiting for others without doing anything toward ikigai).
N = Not Utilizing Talent (Signature Strengths as defined by VIA Survey of Character Strengths (https://www.viacharacter.com)).
T = Transportation (wasting time during travel by ignoring ikigai).
I = Inventory excess (too much stuff and clutter creates stress and takes extra time and energy to find things).
M = Motion Waste (unnecessary motion wastes time).
E = Excess Processing (Analysis paralysis is an example of wasting time with ineffective decision-making processes.
“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.”—Charles Darwin
